Candace Productions 491: in partnership with Oddly Dark Productions

Candace Productions 491 is a goddess-like entity founded by Kenyan-Canadian filmmaker, grip, and actor Prudence Wangu. Combining high-frequency intuition with technical precision, we explore the messy, Yin-Yang duality of the human mind —blending Hitchcockian suspense with Jungian psychology to create immersive thrillers, quirky horror, and gritty Spaghetti Westerns.

Our production services

At Candace Productions 491, we offer a comprehensive range of services tailored to meet the needs of diverse film projects, from concept to post-production in ON, Canada.

ODDLY DARK PRODUCTIONS, our business partner

ODDLY DARK PRODUCTION: is an independent creative engine with a track record at major genre festivals like Toronto After Dark and Blood in the Snow Festivals. We are built on speedy turn arounds and psychological grit, specializing in turning multiple short films into an oddly dark web series at a pace the industry rarely sees. We deliver nostalgic-cinematic films that leave the audience hungry for more.

THE CORE CREATIVES:

Prudence Wangu (Producer, Actor, Director): She brings a profound Kenyan-rooted perspective. Her work such as the haunting Sleep Without a Dream reimagines dark themes, portraying Death as a misunderstood creature.

Kyle Dunbar  (Director): A director with an uncompromising eye for tension. His work on Vile established his ability to navigate the dark corners of psyche and his visual style in Pebbles bring a nostalgic classical feeling to kids horror.

Benji R. Irwin(Cinematographer): His unique perfectly coloured cinematography is the anchor of the Oddly Dark aesthetic. His success in The Last Video Store shows his ability to use light and shadow to evoke a nostalgic yet terrifying feeling.

Rebecca Callender (Producer & Actor): A well balanced artistic and logistical anchor to our whole team. Rebecca's producing of Ultra Cheese and acting skills in Surprise Guests shows her psychological ability to balance captivating acting presence and independent production.

Production management: BROTHERS OF THE WOLF (western feature), with Smudgepot Films

Our experienced team handles all aspects of production logistics. Benji R. Irwin is a talented DOP but also an intelligent Producer. He works closely with Gautier Gacon, a lighting manager at Sunbelt Film and TV, as their collaboration brings a classical look to each genre. Brandon Morin is a big part of Candace Productions management, as he brings us connections like NTB's CEO, (Dallas - Production Manager). Brandon introduced Candace Productions to Smudgepot Films, founded by Derek Groulx (the one buried in the sand!)

Post-production editing

We work with sound engineers like William Caswell, who bring his own kit, then also does the post sound editing. We work with various DITs (eg: Xavier Wehrli and Andre Barillas), Colorists like Benji Irwin and other editors like Chris Lazar. From raw footage to final cut, our post-production experts meticulously edit, colour grade, and sound design your film to achieve a polished, professional look and feel.

WE SHOOT BTS! ALWAYS! With personal cameras and drones from Michael Corbeil , Brandon Morin, and others.

Grip and lighting services

Leveraging Prudence Wangu's hands-on experience(eg as a dolly grip on a Knives Out 2025 commercial), we provide top-tier grip and lighting services to ensure your film's visuals are perfectly crafted and professionally lit.

“Working with Candace Productions 491 on Pool of Light was an exciting experience. Prudence is fabulous in her fashion, intentional with everything and a very talented actress. Her energy is so beautiful and I'm just greatful to her for the experience she gave my daughter.."
