The cinematic journey: Exploring the human psyche

At Candace Productions 491, we craft psychological thrillers that delve into the complex tapestry of human experience. Our films, inspired by a Hitchcockian style, explore themes of raw instinct, pain, and the quest for redemption, inviting audiences to confront the shadows within themselves. Sleep Without a Dream, is our first example of our works, inspired by Silence of the Lambs.

The unique vision: Instinct, pain, and redemption

Candace productions' filmmaking is deeply rooted in raw human instinct, the struggle of pain, and the enduring search for redemption. This approach is shaped by the profound contrasts between Prudence's Kenyan village life and the anonymity of Canadian cities. While settings may change, the fundamental aspects of human nature remain constant.

Having served as a director, producer, actress, and grip, Prudence Wangu brings a comprehensive understanding to every facet of filmmaking. This expertise allows us to explore psychological tension and disturbed characters, using a Hitchcock-inspired methodology to uncover the hidden parts of ourselves. Across all cultures and continents, the same shadows accompany us.

HOW WE GOT STARTED; From Whites, to on set experience, to a production house.

Prudence explains, "While working at Sunbelt Film and TV as a team lead in the lighting and grip department, I made my debut film in Canada (Sleep Without a Dream), co directing it with my all time Director of Photography, Benji Irwin. This short won an Award of Distinction, from Canada Shorts Film Festival and a Best Cinematography award from Canadian Cinematography awards 2022. It officially premiered at Blood in the Snow Festival and other international festivals. Shortly after that, I collaborated with several co workers to create a short film called Big Iron, which won us a Best Director and Best Short Film Award at a western Canadian film festival. I continued to produce ULTRA CHEESE and GHOST THEFT AUTO, with Oddly Dark Productions, 2025- 2026. After establishing myself as an IATSE grip permit, actor, director and indie producer, I was invited to participate in a producers' training program, facilitated by Black Women Film Media and the government of Canada in 2026, in Nova Scotia and Toronto. That was the moment Candace Productions 491 was officially born. We are currently producing a feature film with Smudgepot Films called Brothers of the Wolf, an indigenous western movie, while producing a short film with Oddly Dark Productions called Sweet Potato Dream. "

FUTURE PROJECTS: SWEET POTATO DREAM,  a short film about a feminist witch and a spiritual assassin. 

We continue to serve our Oddly Dark youtu.be channel fans with a new witch feminist character played by Rebecca Callender, in our new short, Sweet Potato Dream!

Pat Mulligan, a.k.a Cowboy, was part of the inspiration for the development of The Fourth Horseman Series.
